Have the parents been questioned about whether they talked about leaving their children at the apartment outloud? Perhaps a waiter or someone at the restaurant overheard them discussing the children alone in the apartment or observed them going back and forth to check on the children. I would think those would be the real suspects. There is a very low statistical possibility that someone would have simply broken into the apartment randomly without knowing there were children left unprotected! Everyone who was at the restaurant that night or on previous nights should be questioned and their alibis checked.
