Madeleine case sparks calls for 'European missing child database'

Pressure is mounting for a Europe-wide database of missing children in the wake of the abduction of Madeleine McCann in Portugal.

The European Commission does not currently collect data on abducted or disappeared children.

Now Labour leader in the European Parliament Gary Titley has written to EU Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini seeking figures for the number of children who are seized in the EU every year, often for sexual exploitation.
